HISTORY OF THE ALABAI BREED
The Central Asian Sheep-Dog, Turkmen Wolfhound or Alabai is one of the most ancient breeds of dogs.

Military collisions, necessity of protection of settlements gave a push to usage of dogs for guard and fighting. This fact has started dog's selection by physical data from shepherd's dogs. In this way an early "mastiff similar" dogs were intended not only for persecution of animals and support of herds appeared, but also for protection of the person and protection of dwelling. The term "mastiff similar" unites group of breeds that begin the origin from Tibetan Shepherd's and sentry dogs.

For the first time this dog was described by hunt-writer Yuate in 1845 under the name of Tibetan mastiff. The Tibetan mastiff is large, rough and crude dog, with enormous force, heavy and short head, a wide muzzle and crude lips. Far ancestors of the Tibetan mastiff - large wolf similar dogs. The earliest mention of the Tibetan mastiff was at 1121 B.C. when one of them, training for search of people has been presented to the Chinese emperor.

From Tibet these dogs have got to Mongolia, Mesopotamia and Central Asia. Having got mixed up with a local livestock the Tibetan mastiffs have lost long wool and became more homogeneous painting but the main features were kept (large growth, rough combining, massive head with a volumetric rather short muzzle). The closest descendant of the Tibetan mastiff is the Mongolian sheep-dog. It is a large dog: growth of dogs - 75cm, females are lower, powerful skeleton, a wide breast. Mongolian Sheep-Dog is malice, active; with an advanced sentry reflexes. Tibetan mastiff and the Kirghiz sheep-dog have very close descriptions. Journal "Dog's breeding" (1929, #7) in Tkachenko's article: "The Kirghiz sheep-dog is large wolf-similar dog of powerful combining. It is possessing perfectly advanced instinct of protection. It is affectionate to the owner; it perfectly grazes herds of rams and protects them from the steppe wolf. As this description shows the Kirghiz Sheep-Dog is the descendant of the ancient Asian mastiff-similar dogs with the blood of the local dogs".

Our Central Asian Sheep-Dogs are also descendants of the ancient mastiff similar dogs. The population of those areas of Central Asia where were engaged in cattle breeding concerned to a dogs very well. In hierarchy the dog was right after the domestic cattle that were their basic riches.

Professor, academician of the Kazakh Academy of sciences S.N.Bogolyubsky was one of the first scientists studying the Central Asian sheep-dog. In 1927 he has published in the journal "Dog breeding and training" №15 article "Concerning the shepherd's dogs of Turkmenistan ". The Central Asian sheep-dog or Alabai is the breed developed during the most ancient times in conditions of extensive "subsistence economy" at "unconscious natural selection by methods of national selection".

The name Central Asian (Turkmen) Sheep-Dog meets in 1935. In a number of exhibition catalogues this dog refers to as the Turkestani sheep-dog, but probably with abolition of the name Turkestan and introduction of the term Central Asia, the Turkestani sheep-dog is renamed in Central Asian. It has taken place by the end of 40th years, A.P.Mazover thought, that most the best livestock, with the purest and homogeneous type is concentrated in Turkmenistan. The best Turkmen dogs are rough and strong type with short or average length, rough and dense wool.

Dogs of Tadjikistan are cruder with a friable folded skin. In Uzbekistan also are numerous livestock of the Central Asian Sheep-Dog. Outside the former USSR the Central Asian sheep-dogs (or as it name in Turkmenistan - Alabai) are distributed in Afghanistan, Northern Pakistan, Northern States of India, East Iran. In each of these regions breed has got the special specific features. To show a special role of Turkmen people in cultivation and selections of Alabai, it is necessary to name a dog Turkmen Alabai.

In 1947 A.P.Mazover wrote: "The Central Asian sheep-dog has very well kept characteristic for the Tibetan dogs muzzle that wide at the basis and on the end which at the further culture of cultivation was transformed in peculiar mastiff and further to bulldogs and boxers. Thus the Central Asian Sheep-Dog (Alabai) is the closest to the initial form of the Tibetan mastiff after the Mongolian Sheep-Dog".

ALABAI - FRIEND OF TURKMENS
UNLIKE OTHER DOGS THIS DOG HAS STRONG BODY, IMPENETRABLE SKIN, STRONG NERVOUS SYSTEM AND ABILITY TO PROTECT MEN

As one ancient legend says, wild animals surrounded Adam and started attacking him after he was expelled by God from paradise to the sinful earth. A huge dog headed the horde. The first man begged the Almighty for help, and he advised him to stroke a dog. Adam followed his advice. The dog turned around and began protecting Adam from assailants.

This was the way the dog became the first friend and protector of men on earth, according to ancient legends.

In the territory of Turkmenistan the oldest remains of large dogs were discovered in the settlement of Dzheitun (VI century BC). In the settlement of Altyn - Депе (II century BC) we may see later evidences of large dogs - ancestors of the modern Turkmen Alabai breed - that lived during those ancient times in the territory of today's Turkmenistan. It should be noted that the first mentioning of the Tibetan mastiff, alleged to be an ancestor of the Turkmen wolfhound, is found in the ancient Chinese "Book of chronicles", dated 1121 BC. It tells us about one large dog presented to Chinese emperor Vu-Vangu. It gives us the ground to revise the notion that the Tibetan mastiff is the ancestor of the Turkmen Alabai, which is proved by the terracotta figure found in the settlement of Altyn -Depe (the Bronze Age) in the territory of modern Turkmenistan. It has more ancient history and is 9 centuries older than "Book of chronicles". The figure is a vivid example that the Turkmen Alabai has kept its origin. A figure of the modern Turkmen Alabai with cut ears and tail and hardly visible transition of a forehead to a muzzle and a strong body can be seen in it.

In Turkmenistan, Alabai dogs were kept isolated from other breeds of dogs and retained its original breed, not mixing up with other breeds. This was fostered by the geographic situation of Turkmenistan: there are the Kopetdag mountains on the one hand and the Caspian sea on the other, plus the Kara Kum desert. None of existing breeds of dogs could overcome independently these natural obstacles and mix up with the Turkmen Alabai. Turkmens, being true selectors, bred unique breeds of pets, such as the Ahalteke racer, the Turkmen Alabai, the hunting dog called Tazy and kept their original breed for thousands of years.

In the ancient times people grazed flocks around their homes on nearby pastures. At that time, dogs were used basically for protection of settlements and, to a lesser extent, for grazing of live stock. In the beginning of the first century BC, however, the situation changed and the era of cattlemen-nomads began. They used to take their flocks to the remote pastures and there, far from settlements, one could hardly survive without such friend, assistant, defender and body guard as a dog. As opposed to settlements where dogs were used only as guards, ancestors of the modern Turkmen Alabai dogs helped cattlemen graze sheep and protected both shepherds and their livestock from predators that lived in great amounts in the territory of modern Turkmenistan at that time. The Turkmen Alabai is a strong dog, modest in meal and capable of grazing the flock for a long time, protecting it from predators and at the same time managing to do with a piece of bread or a lap made of flour all day long.

Cattlemen valued these qualities very much, for such a large dog, capable to fight a wolf, can do with so poor food. Also, the Turkmen Alabai can easily stand sharp weather changes. Alabai dogs adapt both to very hot weather, +45 degrees Celsius in shade, and to high-mountain temperature, up to - 30 degrees Celsius. Another special feature inherent in the Turkmen Alabai is the ability to protect his master from snakes. Alabai grabs the snake and breaks her backbone with sharp strokes. The dog does so for a certain reason. If it holds the snake by the head, then other large snakes can twist around his neck and strangle him. These qualities make the Turkmen Alabai the true friend and body guard of a cattleman in his hard life.

The VI century BC witnessed a wave of conquests by the Ahemenid kings. According to one legend, Kir I, the greatest of Ahemenid kings, was fed with dog's milk. It means that dogs were held in great esteem and considered sacred. Then, there followed conquests of Alexander the Great, the times of the most hard fights and campaigns. In VI century, Central Asia was completely conquered by Turks who established their own state in 551 year. At that time, cattle breeding already advanced, a shepherd needed a loyal friend and dogs were treated favorably.

The attitude toward dogs changed in VII century owing to the conquest of Central Asia by Arabs. Arabs brought in their culture and new faith - Islam. If fire worshippers considered dog a sacred animal, Islam regarded dogs as dirty animals and the attitude toward man's true friends changed. Aggressive dogs were simply killed, only the most loyal to man and children dogs were left. This might be the reason that the Turkmen Alabai belongs only to one territory, he carries security service only at his territory and does not show aggression to people in the foreign territory.

The history of Central Asia is replete with great conquests and campaigns of nomads. Basically, those were nomad tribes of cattlemen, and it is hard to imagine the cattleman's life without a large security dog. Each tribe used to bring their true friends, dogs, with their flocks. But the life chooses the strongest, capable to survive in very difficult conditions. In the territory of modern Turkmenistan, the original breed of the dog called the Turkmen Alabai survived. The look of the man's true friend has not changed over 5 thousand years, despite all hardships it had to overcome together with his master.

The Turkmen Alabai retained its origin thanks to such qualities as modesty in meal, ability to do even with very poor food and without water for a long time. Alabai has thick and impenetrable skin that cannot be torn up by teeth of opponents and damaged by various scratchy plants that grow in abundance in the territory of Turkmenistan, especially in sandy places. Alabai can fight a predator and, as a rule, beats the enemy. Alabai does not need daily training to master certain commands as is the case with dogs of some other breeds. In contrast with them, the Turkmen Alabai learns in his young age from the mother how to graze the flock, fulfill guard duties, kill snakes, master fighting skills, bark at the approaching enemy. Nobody teaches Alabai specific commands as to stay behind a sheep that strayed from the flock in the desert or in mountains. Protection of property of his master, even at the expense of his own life, is natural of the dog. As one shepherd told us, his loyal Alabai stayed with a sheep that strayed from the flock for three days and died from thirst near her. The Turkmen Alabai is a loyal dog.

Many modern breeds of dogs were bred artificially by the method of crossing different breeds, and their history is less than 200 years. They appeared as a result of people's modern demands. However, it can happen that they may be no longer required in due time and will disappear as did other breeds that were not in demand and could not adapt to the new conditions of life and work. Time is the true judge in this regard, and the Turkmen Alabai, who passed his life test with credit, lasting for 5 thousand years, has proved it.

Many would-be dog breeders have no idea about implications of their experiments, trying to grow up the best breed by crossing Alabais with other breeds. They do not realize what harm they do to the breed that survived thanks to its unique qualities. True admirers of this breed are convinced that the best representative of Central Asian sheepdog (САS) breed is Alabai. Archive documents, in which CAS breed was known as "the Turkmen sheepdog" until 1938 (since its best representatives were in Turkmenistan), is evidence of that.

There are legends about a shepherd who tried to breed large dogs crossing Alabai with a tiger.

We still have laymen who claim that their dogs have the blood of a tiger or a leopard, not understanding absurdity of these words. It is impossible to cross-breed a cat and a dog and to expect offspring from them. We know some cases of free crossing of Alabais and Tazis. Their offspring are called "Gayyn" (one should not confuse it with "Gytyk", meaning sleek-haired). Such dogs were smaller than thoroughbred Alabai dogs and could not be regarded as successors of the breed.

If "Gayyn" and Tazy crossed again, their offspring were called "Zannar", they were categorically denied further breeding. Also, there were examples of crossing of dogs with a wolf. In this case, if the father was a dog and the mother was a wolf, the offspring were referred to as "Hunnush". Otherwise, offspring were named "Unnush".

It is said that a puppy incorporates many qualities with mother's milk. That is why some shepherds tried to hold offspring of a wolf and female Alabai, but they had many defects: a wolf has a weak waist and always falls down when contenders rise on back legs. Alabai has the thick and impenetrable skin, and this quality may be lost at mixing.

Hybrids have weak nervous system. A wolf, by his nature, always hunted and stole live stock, and a wolfhound, on the contrary, protected flock and sheep. That is why their offspring with weak nervous system are unpredictable. They either are too aggressive or very coward and useless either for protection or for grazing livestock. All the more so, if we take into account that Alabai is stronger than a wolf, why spoil the breed? The main distinctive feature of the Turkmen Alabai is affection for men, especially children. On the contrary, a wolf is aggressive. Also, hybrids are unsuitable for contests between thoroughbred Turkmen Alabai dogs as they show and grind the teeth, which is inadmissible for Alabai.

In the years of independence, against the background of the common process of reviving people's spiritual and cultural heritage, unlimited and illegal export of valuable representatives of the breed, "Turkmen Alabai", was stopped. In fact, new breeds of dogs can be raised by cross-breeding, and the breed with ancient history is very difficult to find. Alabai is a fearless dog that will not tremble before any enemy. To prove it, enthusiasts took Alabai nicknamed Ekemen (who proved himself good in test fights) to a zoo and brought him close to an open-air cage with a lion. It was hard to hold Ekemen, so furiously he tried to rush at the lion, denying claims that a dog, having put the tail between the legs, will escape only at hearing the terrible roar of the animals' king. Despite the lion's growl, Ekemen became even stronger in his fury. Finally, the lion got away, lied down and lifted upwards all his four paws (a defensive position) as if recognizing the dog's superiority over the family of cats, because a lion is a cat too, yet the big one.

The Turkmen Alabai once again proved in practice that he will not spare his life to protect his master. One should be really proud of this masterpiece of nature!

Treasures of Turkmenistan - Alabai

Turkmen dog - Alabai is a beautiful and courageous animal. For many centuries it has helped Turkmen shepherds to safeguard flocks of cattle in heavy conditions of sandy desert. This magnificent dog can not be confused with one other breed. Strong, well built alabai is fascinating in its nobleness of movements, confidence and calmness. But anyone who has seen this fighter struggles with a predator will never part with his alabai... Now Turkmen wolfhound has a lot of friends and admirers all over the world. It is a fact that this breed has been created by genetic selection. From time immemorial shepherds selecting set dogs to fight. They kept the winner. In fact, they needed a courageous fighter capable of protecting a flock of sheep. Even today during dogfights experts evaluate its hind and fore legs positioning, width and the upper part of chest, waist strength, steep ribs and long false ribs. "A wolfhound should have a strong short neck - they say - a massive heavy head with smooth transition from forehead to muzzle similar to a polar bear's". All these qualities of the breed representative are fixed only on a ring during dogfights. Today alabai is treasured not only by the people who have created the breed but also by all who has grown fond of these animals and highly appreciates this courageous protector and friend. Considered by many to be just a regional variant of the Central Asian Ovcharka, the legendary Alabai is a respected working breed in its native Turkmenistan, where it is highly valued for its purity and personality traits, as well as its superb resilience and guarding abilities. This impressive Molosser is one of the oldest natural mastiffs in the world, having remained virtually unchanged for nearly 5000 years, with only occasional limited interference from humans, whose requirements and high standards ensured the survival of only the best working bloodlines. Although popular belief classifies the Alabai as a descendant of the Tibetan Mastiff, this is most certainly incorrect, since the mighty Turkmen Volkodav is much older than the dogs of Tibet and has been protected from the influence of other breeds for centuries by the geographical isolation of its home region.
Some authorities believe that the Alabai is the original Asiatic Mastiff and the key progenitor of most world breeds, including the mythical Tibet Dogge.Like with other ancient breeds, there are many folk stories and legends mentioning the Alabai, some of them describing it as a result of mating's between leopards and sheep, as well as tigers and wolves and so on. The old proto-Turkmen Huns and related Asian tribes were known for their dogs and strict breeding rules since ancient times, a practice which has resulted in the establishment of their superb working breeds, the most famous of which are the Tazy and the Alabai. Rugged, obedient and protective, the Chokcha has traditionally been kept as a settlement watchdog and livestock guardian, prized for its size, strength, agility and courage. Over the centuries of warfare, this region of Central Asia has been invaded by many conquerors, including Alexander the Great and the Turks and Arabs, all of which introduced new customs and beliefs to the area. Alexander the Great was very fond of Asian mastiffs and has brought many dogs back to Greece with him, from where the Alabai influenced a great number of European breeds and became one of the most important mastiffs in the legendary Molossian foundation stock. This majestic breed also played a role in the development of other important historic Molossers, from the very influential Alaunt and the large mountain dogs of Kavkaz and the Balkans to the mastiffs of Italy, France and Spain. In its home region, the Chokcha suffered greatly during the islamization of Asia in the 7th century, due to the conquering Arabs' opinion that the dog is a vicious and filthy animal, resulting in systematic destruction of large aggressive mastiffs, which were until then considered near-sacred by the Zoroastrians of the area. The nomadic Turkmen tribes were allowed to keep a limited number of dogs with their herds, so they chose only those examples which possessed the best working qualities and calm, reliable temperaments. From this carefully selected group of dogs, the modern Alabai has inherited its fantastic working abilities, appearance and personality that make it one of the most impressive Molossers in the world.
Over the years, some specialized crosses were established, such as the powerful and fast hunting variety known as the Gayyn, which is a cross between an Alabai and the Tazi, or the type known as Hunnush, achieved by introducing wolf blood into the Chokcha. While these crosses were quite common, they weren't allowed to be bred back into the Alabai bloodlines in Turkmenistan, but were regularly sold to visitors from Russia and neighboring regions, where they influenced other varieties of the Central Asian Shepherd Dog. To this day, the most respected representatives of the C.A.O. are said to come from Turkmenistan, but in its homeland, the mighty Alabai is viewed as more than just a type of the popular Russian breed and is on its way to a possible separate recognition, which it very much deserves. Although it is fairly popular to use the name "Alabai" when describing the C.A.O. in the West, it is simply incorrect, because the Turkmen Volkodav is not just a sub-type of the Central Asian Ovcharka, but is in fact its pure ancestor. Some Alabai enthusiasts would even go as far as saying that the C.A.O. is a type of Alabai and not the other way around. As is the case with some other working Molosser breeds, the Turkmen Alabai still participates in fighting tournaments in Asia, which are more than just dog-fights organized for entertainment, but are actually held for testing of the dogs' strength, courage and skills. Only the strongest specimens that have proven themselves in conflicts with other Volkodavs, wolves and bears are allowed to breed and pass their genes onto the next generation. These methods have been successful for many centuries, but unfortunately in recent years a number of un pure dogs has been encountered, valued simply for their fighting skills and not for their livestock guarding abilities or correct temperament and health, which is a sign of the westernization of the region and the loss of traditional values. This is endangering the purity of the Alabai breed, which has already suffered enough from mating's with the modern C.A.O. and its cousins from Iran, Uzbekistan and other neighboring regions.
This is an even-tempered, intelligent and loyal dog, protective of its owner, but not at all vicious or overly aggressive towards strangers. Calculated, noble and obedient, it responds well to training and makes an amenable companion for experienced owners. Although it is gentle with children, docile and generally well-behaved, the Turkmen Volkodav still requires early socialization and responsible handling around other dogs. The Alabai is a well-boned, muscular and agile mastiff, with a large head, powerful muzzle and strong neck. Wide-chested, straight-backed and long-legged, this is a resilient and athletic Moloss, well-adapted to the harsh climates of its native country and long working hours of guarding livestock. Sadly, while powerful, a fair number of representatives, most notably those from modern fighting lines, have poor pigmentation and bad hips. The ears are carried low and are usually cropped. The majority of working examples have docked tails, but unaltered dogs can be seen on occasion. Two main types of the Alabai are the heavy mastiff variety known as Chokcha and the leaner shepherd type called Koyuntchi, both of which can be found within the same litter. The coat is short, thick and densely undercoated, naturally becoming longer during the winter months. Although the most valued coloring has traditionally been uniform white, the Turkmen Wolfdogs can also be bicolor, always white-based with markings of cream, fawn, brown, gray and black shades. Average height is around 32 inches, but smaller specimens exist.

"Turkmen Watchdog"
This is a large rugged and fierce race, equaling the wolf in statue shaped like a Irish Greyhound and with equally powerful jaws, the ears ERECT the tail rather hairy their color a deep yellowish red and so like the NARTAN wolf. There were among them a few white & black evidently crossed dogs from another origin. This race extends where the Turkmen or Torkee people reside from Central high Asia to Bosphurus."

Legendary Turkmen Alabai

Old Elbars
Big fan of dog testing's , Gelda Хоdzhаnеpеsсоv from Barhаrdеnа, more known as Geldy had said that this dog was brought from country side of Zhdanov Tendzhenskog . Old Elbars was massive, strong male, with large bone structure and with very developed macular tone. He had excellent shape of the head with long, flat and wide forehead full and wide muzzle, slightly lowered , practically not narrowing to the end of the nose;he had overbite. Well developed head muscles made it very smooth. His head wasn't the only thing he was noticed for: strong back, slightly protruding and very well developed muscles on his waist , wide and long croop, rounded rib cage and long rib. His rear and frond extremities where perfectly positioned. With one look he gave an appearance of visitor from the past.
Old Elbars had many fights and won all of them, he fought in Uzbekistan where his owner took him for a Championship. From that trip Gelda had brought back a cow as a trophy . When Old Elbars was around 15 years old Gelda took him to Ashhabad, where he was bread to Gounchi daughter of Black Ekimen and got Goymot which by his looks resembled his dad especially the head ,but was smaller in size.

Akgush
Akgush -is a dog known for the victories not only in fights, but also on show rings, particularly in Donetsk. The feature film "Ohlamon" has been made about this dog. In that movie where some more very known Turkmen dogs: his daughter Akbaj (owner F.Bolkunova), son Bergud (owner. A.Nurjagdyev) which played young Akgusha, Babur (owner. K.Kjarizov) and Bovser (owner Kjarizov). Akgush was born in 1985 in Chache from white with black spots Chakana (owner Kurbanov) and Gojunchi (owner Mohammeds), his mother Chakana. Chakana father , nickname is unknown, has come with flocks of area Tedzhenskogo. For some time have lived in Chache, Akgush has been taken out in Kaahku, and then to Ashkhabad where at the age of two years gets to A.Nurjagdyev who gives him this nickname Akgush. Has lead set of fights, became the Champion of Turkmenistan three times. In his fighting career he has not lost any fight. He was average growth, about 74 - 75 sm at the neck , rough, white color.
With very good pedigree, with wonderfully muscled , very volumetric head, with smooth transition from a forehead to a muzzle, but with slightly expressed arches. It had short enough, very volumetric, not narrowed almost to end of the nose , muzzle (39 sm under eyes, 36 sm near nose).Had a low output, short neck with characteristic dewlap . Perfectly combined and muscled torso ,was slightly spoiled by a little shortened narrow croup and connected with it a little bit substituted back finiteness. The grasp of forearms around 15 sm. He was a "thinking" dog, masterly owned the technics of fight - beat larger and heavier opponents. Owing the endurance and ability to be restored quickly, presumed to combat him self in the beginning of fight not so actively, and having waited when the contender gets tired , passed in rigid counterattack. Thus he was absolutely not aggressive to small dogs and even concerned to them with some fastidiousness. Akgush it is recognized in children and even grandsons as he has transferred to them not just the appearance but the character of a fighter. Unfortunately, often he transferred also the lacks of back finiteness, therefore in cultivation it is necessary to consider it.

White Ekimen
White Ekimen was born in Kaahke from an old dog which was picked up by Sary Meredov ,when that was on the verge of death from an exhaustion and illnesses. About one year spent for restoration of his health, feeding in the beginning only liquid food as the dog could not even chew, Meredov has managed to restore a dog so, that after some time he still worked in a flock and participated in fights. Later the owner again had to treat the Elbarsa, suffered from people for the pugnacity: someone has beaten out all of his teeth with a shovel, even his tongue was split and become doubled, like a snake's tongue. Now all this has acquired legends, and in Kaahke it is often possible to hear, that this tongue intimidated other dogs, putting it out and even hissing. But even being without a teeth, he could not calm down; he continued to fight and won, betting the opponents with his head, and having seen a congestion of people, he considered, that they all means gathered for fights and resorted there in searches of the contender.
From this unruly dog and Gojunchi ,shepherd Meredov has received five puppies: two males and three females. Females as superfluous he dug, one dog was lost when still was a puppy, and survived dog has been named Ak Ekimen. Often enough this nickname is translated as " One I ", i.e. "unique", that is true only partly if to try to translate literally, and the conclusion further is done, that so in Turkmen name the dog who has born in a singular. Actually Ekimen means "unsociable", "gloomy". White Екimen was a large, massive dog, white color, with almost imperceptible, light yellow, medium-sized spots. Prominent feature of his behavior was that, very tolerantly concerning to people during rest in the house, but he was extremely aggressive to another's, being in a flock on work. He loved his work the most in which he always excellent The was one case when the wolf has got in , and White Екimen then absolutely still young, barked, ran around, but did not approached . Меredov tells, that after that he has said to the dog: " If once again so you will do this , I shall shoot you ". And the dog has understood. " It was enough to have White Екimen with any bitch at flock to not be afraid of any wolves ", - the shepherd adds. Though White Екimen was the champion on fights, but he never was a fighting dog . Gumman is very known in Turkmenistan , took him from Кааhкa on fights to Ashkhabad, speaks: " Ак Екiмен did not love me, he in general did not love the city, to him here it was uncomfortable. At all time he wanted back in a flock, even ate badly. So it was necessary to return him back in four month . When he was taken back, he jumped out of the truck and ran 10 kilometers back to the flock. One of Ак Екimen's sons in honor of the father have named as, therefore, to avoid mess, in Turkmenistan now it is accepted to distinguish: 1-st White Екimеn (father) and 2-nd White Екiмеn (son). "

Black Ekimen
It is a pity, but it's been like this for centuries, that creating of a cult of any manufacturer , occurs after death. The similar situation has not bypassed Black Екimen. While he was still alive there was a set of legends about his origin. East epos is beautiful and entertaining, but it would not be desirable to confuse the reader, and I shall try to acquaint briefly with history of an origin and separate fragments from a life of this wonderful dog. My Turkmen friends have allowed me to make it happen: Geldy and Kakish Kyarizov, family Meredovyh, Perman Мuhamedod, Aliev Hivolibaj and Амаnsаhат Nуryagdiev. My greater enthusiasm with Turkmen Alabai and especially Black Екimen with enormous quantity of trips in Turkmenistan have allowed me to collect rich information material. The family of hereditary shepherds Мedoix in Кааhка held three dogs: White Екimen, Black Екiмеn and the son of Black Екimen - Sаrdаrа. Very many shepherds got dogs on external similarity to an ancestor same thing happened to Black Ekimen. In the end of 70th the flock was brought in Кааhку . Together with a flock has come and it has been left black-speckled bitch, with very impudent character. After a while she has given birth to three puppies. One of them, namely identical by colorings with mother, has been left by shepherds Меredovim. The puppy grew very impudent and independent. In the age of one year Black Ekimen has received serious trauma, when he got hit by a motorcycle. Treatment was not done, but fortunately the dog has survived, though traumas have affected a structure of its back legs According to shepherds Меeredovih, B.Ekimen only once scuffled with wolves, but nobody saw details of fight, as it was very dark, and the scared flock of sheep's did not allowed to approach close enough to see the dog scuffling wolves.

Also we need to mention ,that B.Ekimen after that fight for a long time could not rise and he was treated with old tested Turkmenian way by applying of fresh kurdyuck ( Sheep Fat). Finally having recovered, B.Ekimen continued to work in the flock until friend Meredovyh, Kumman began to take away Black and White Екiмеn's for the celebratory fights in Аshhabad. Black Екiмеn and White Екiмеn never were Champions. But at the same time B.Ekimen possessed huge internal energy and the impudent character, allowing to put him in fights several times. And B.Ekimen justified hopes, he always went to fight and always beat the opponent chest forward. In addition it is important to add, that B.Ekimen possessed very low threshold of painful sensitivity.
Many Turkmens known B.Ekimen, remember so-called fight “ three toothed with three pawed ” when opponent of B.Ekimena, having caught him by a paw, has completely held down B.Ekimen's movements. Nothing foretold success, but B.Ekiemen has surprised all: he has seized himself by the paw and with powerful jerk has released himself from the opponent, having pulled out with this movement the opponent's canine. After that B.Ekimen's fight,he received greater popularity. They gave and sold, changed and returned him , but he has not justified desire of the owners. He did not possess a specific manner of fight. As before there was an impudence and indefatigability. At last, having returned to the former owner, but already to the senior from brothers, to Aman Meredovu, B.Ekimen was used as the stud.
But also here he has not justified hopes. Being not potent dog he has not embodied himself in the children. In known four breedings all his sons have inherited a phenotype of mother. B.Ekimen has served only as inhensment. Subsequently were made inbridings in all regions of former Soviet Union, but unsuccessfully. Only family Kjarizovyh managed to receive fenotipick grandsons similar to him, they were Тоhмет and Gurlen. At the same time, it was an initial point in opening of a line of the descendants in Тurkmenistan, such as Erlen, Аkela and Аrlаn, known already today. Thanks to B.Ekimen we have received : Bоvsеr (Bаbur х Тоgolok), Аkela (Аrlаn х Тоgolok), Акbаi (Акgush х Nokot), and also descendants ascending through the bitches: Diка (Sаrdar х Karali), used in cultivation in Minsk, Кеnurdzha (Umar х Иnginlidzhаnа), Ugrel (B.Ekimen х Оira) in St.-Petersburg,Arlan.
Finishing a narration about wonderful Black Екiмеn it would be desirable to say something to present selectors: appreciate and love the manufacturers of dogs while they are alive, the dog century is short, and "to catch" valuable qualities of "former" manufacturers in nowadays living descendants, very labor-consuming work and not always grateful for the selector.

Аrlan
He was pure white color. Just like a rabbit inside very dark room, the puppy was sitting inside the cave with his mom. Wet,small, white with dark spot on his head . In the middle crying sounds of puppies one could clearly hear definite growl of one unhappy pup. All of a sadden the was a cry, the owner woke up and run to the yard. In the complete dark of night Gelda was able to observe 2 pups feeding. He picked them up and took a look. They where 2 males. Above of the ears of one pup was a spot. Gel da smiled and out loud thanked God. His owner dreamed of having dog just like that. For a long wile he had hopes to have a son of Erlan, for him to be as strong, proud and white colored. By that time Gelda Kyarizov had second master degree (Zootech) and he wanted to create his own line more than any one else. Happiness couldn't have been better and 2 white males that looked like twins brother Gyarizov's kept and named Erlen and Erlen 2. As days went by pups grew. Their mom, white dam with tiger stripes, wasn't very affectionate mom, but she had lots of milk to feed them.
By 3 month old they looked like summa wrestlers. Paying to much attention to the pups the owners didn't notice, how their dad Erlan was going down. By summer time he was dead. If that wasn't bad some one had stole Arlan. Arlan 2 was left as only hope for repeating the father . Since early puppy hood the felt competition. At first it was his brother Arlen and later, after moving to another property "Аhаll, near Gеок-Теpе, Esser became his permanent enemy, grandson of his father. Erlen 2 was cocky dog also caused him huge sympathy of grooms. Tender, externally very beautiful, he had got to himself constant attention and care. They constantly caressed and fed him. Subsequently these circumstances have rendered him few problems because he was stolen several times but by lucky charm was always returned to his owners. Near a year old Erlen was tested for fighting ability. He did not pass the test and was send back to Gеок-Теpе. Upset Gelda " in heart " has changed a nickname of a dog, and for some time has forgotten about him.Now he became Аrlаn. The recollection about the dog only came back when 10-month's female with a nickname Тоgоlок, received in a combination from the same Erlеn and it's niece Karalli , has accidentally bread with Аrlan. The born puppies were magnificent. Later this breeding had repeated twice and always with wonderful result. Thus, the life itself has predetermined purpose to Arlan. The grandson- legendary Black Екimen, the son of well-known Erlen which till now is one of standards of the breed, Аrlan became fine manufacturer. In that he has surpassed many relatives. Not being an inbreed dog, he steadily "printed" the heritage in his descendants. Even looking at his grandsons and great-grandsons, experts without effort see in them presence of Arlan,Erlen, Black Екimen. This fact had interested some breeders. And who "was in time", has a fine opportunity to work with this line. I am myself with maximum effort bread his grandsons, having a happy opportunity to attach every possible descendants of Arlan, and also Yunks, unique in the country and one and only -son of Apache (owner U.Mamedhyazob ) from Bаigush.

My lucky fortune has allowed me several times to interact personally with this remarkable beauty of a dog. Each time, observing so harmonious animal, I wanted the most figuratively and expressively to describe his physic. In one of trips in Turkmenistan it was possible for me to measure and carefully make the description. So here it goes: unusual beauty. Powerful, very tall, white, with rich coat:a mane, tanks, friezes as in heavy trucks. The head, comparing with the body is short but rough and heavy look and but very harmonious. A cranium in a cut square, that is why the volume is great. The muzzle small is length, wide, without bright crisis to a skull. Because the eyebrows are visible, seems that structure has a stop. The bottom jaw is wide, its long bone not a straight line ,but качелью, because of that muzzle is even bigger. Under eyes and in the basis of a muzzle convex, but cheeks do not stand out. Lips are thick and "meaty", as if stung by bees. Upper lips do not hang down, but cover bottom. In corners of lips pockets. Nose is wide, black, because of the general cut of a muzzle does not stand out.yes alive, expressive, at a great distance from each other. The neck high, not long and from a long fur seems even more shorter, than actually is and does not border on a nape, and smoothly merges. A chest is wide, but not convex, "box". Chest is deep because shoulders are born forward. Edges, especially back, well lowered. The back short, wide "bench", before waist is bent, though a waist wide and convex. Groats long . Shoulders slanting, as well as knees. Forearms strong, convex. A bone of legs flat, wide. Paws are very strong. Movements soft, elastic.Finishing a brief narration about the history of a life of this remarkable dog, I'd like to say, that always there are many remarkable dogs with whom we are not always happy and not always find in them an embodiment of the hopes. Possibly, it is not necessary to be afflicted and wave away from them. Try to see the pupil on the other hand. Probably, it will prove magnificent sitter, so necessary for you at present, or the incorruptible watchman, a fine draught dog or remarkable and unpretentious.Postpone your dreams for a short while and they will necessarily be shown in your next dog. And this dog as is worthy your attention and love. And it will by all means answer you with the same. This is the main law of Nature.

Old Gaplan (Lame Gaplan)
This dog shook by his size and massiveness. Gaplan was born in Kaakhke his owner was the shepherd Asenali Guseinov. Once in the village of Tedzhensk region Asenali saw two dogs, they struck him by their their great standards and huge size. After finding owner of the dogs, he made a request to sell one of them, the owned declined. Esenali traveled to the village several times to persuade the owner to sell and finally was able to buy a puppy - female form one of them. She became the mother of old Gaplan. Father was male, which belonged to Guseinov. From the words of old shepherd, precisely this dog, later was rescued by Sarah Meredov and, bread with his own female received White Ekimen. Old Gaplan was called Lame Gaplan when approximately at six years old he got hit by a car.
